Chesters extends contract and joins medical team

Ealing Trailfinders are pleased to announce that Phil Chesters has signed a new deal with the club that will also feature him joining the medical staff.

The wing is currently the leading try scorer in National 1 with 31 tries, a haul that means he has now scored over 200 tries since he joined Ealing Trailfinders in 2009.

“I am delighted to have extended my contract for another year at Ealing Trailfinders, ” he said. “The club has been a massive part of my career and I look forward to playing my part fully as we work for future successes.

“To join the medical team next season is a fantastic opportunity for me, not only to develop my skills but to gain more experience. I am excited to be working closely alongside the medical staff and with all the squad.”

Chesters, 27, graduated from St Mary’s College in Twickenham with a BSc in Graduate Sports Rehabilitation. He is a specialist practitioner in musculoskeletal injury assessment, treatment and injury rehabilitation to a performance standard.

Since his graduation he has worked with elite international track and field athletes, international polo players and international rugby teams such as England and New Zealand.

Most recently he worked within a team assisting soft tissue treatment during the autumn internationals and he has also worked with elite and recreational runners at numerous London and European marathons taking a special interest in running gait optimisation and running biomechanics.

“Chesters has played a huge role in the clubs success over the years and it is great that he will be extending his stay with us, ” director of coaching Ben Ward said. “His try scoring record is second to none and he has also worked very hard on other areas of his game to keep improving each season.

“We are continuously looking to keep building our infrastructure off the field and to add Phil to the medical team is another step forward. He will combine his role as a player and be able to provide valuable insight to the medical team as well as his experience of working with elite athletes.”
