Cornish and Alexis receive Counties call-ups
Two members of the Ealing Trailfinders pro academy have received call ups to England Counties teams.
Matt Cornish will link up with the full Counties side for their tour to Canada after a season spent training with the Ealing Trailfinders professional squad.
The hooker made his first XV debut away to Rotherham Titans in the British and Irish Cup, played for London Irish Wild Geese and also represented Surrey in the Bill Beaumont Counties Cup.
The Counties’ tour will begin on Friday 3 June in Vancouver against BC Bears. They then travel 600 miles to Calgary to take on 2015 Canadian champions Prairie Wolf Pack on Tuesday 7 June and wrap up their tour Ontario Blues in Toronto on Saturday 11 June.
Cornish follows in the footsteps of James Love, Phil Chesters, Owen Bruynseels, Peter Hodgkinson, Lee Starling and Tom Wheatcroft, who all won England Counties caps during their time at Vallis Way.
Prop forward Ziana Alexis has been called up to the England Counties U20 team that will tour Russia.
The U20s will travel to Moscow on Thursday, 2 June and they will face Russia’s U20s at the Slava Stadium on the 5 June and 8 of June.
He has already taken part in their preparations at Moseley Rugby Club and the squad will train at Old Isleworthians RFC before they fly to Moscow and where they will spend time carrying out outreach work as part of the World Rugby Unity Project.
Ziana has been part of the Ealing Trailfinders pro academy since towards the end of last season. He won his place in the national squad after he helped for Buckinghamshire reach the U20 National Shield semi-finals.
England Counties is the flagship team of the Community Game in England and offers players from National League One and below the opportunity to represent their country.
