Crane back for first start since January

Rhys Crane returns to the Ealing Trailfinders starting line-up for the first time since they took on Yorkshire Carnegie in the British and Irish Cup in January.

Last season’s leading scorer will line up on the wing having encountered a number of injuries over the subsequent months. He has happy memories of playing Saturday’s opponents having scored the final try in the 51-34 victory over them when the teams met in the Cup at Vallis Way.

Glen Townson will captain the side in the absence of Mark Bright. It will be the second time that the second row has led the team out since his arrival from Bristol in late 2016. That came in the 56-19 win over Dragons Premiership Select in the Cup.

Townson will pack down alongside Barney Maddison, while behind them Kieran Murphy starts at number 8 with Chris York and Rayn Smid either side of him on the flanks.

Further forward James Gibbons celebrates signing an extension to his current deal this week by starting at loose-head. He will begin alongside hooker Alun Walker and tight-head Sam Rodman.

In the backline Phil Chesters lines up on the opposite wing from Crane, to reunite a pair that scored 18 tries between them last season.

Lewis Jones and Arthur Ellis will be between then in the centres, with Will Harries again donning the number 15 jersey at fullback.

Luke Carter will start at scrum-half for the sixth week in succession and will partner Aaron Penberthy who is aiming to add to the 144 points he had already scored this season.
