Ealing Trailfinders trio gain their wings

Ealing Trailfinders Rhys Crane, Adam Preocanin and Chris York recently took flight after training to help coach a team of youngsters who were taking part in the RAF Benevolent Fund’s Airplay scheme at RAF Northolt.

The trio of players and SNCO Sergeant Gary Loftus helped coach the youngsters in a variety of skill drills before they wrapped up the afternoon with a lively touch rugby match.

Club mascot Bruno the Bear was on hand to oversee the action and one of the young players, Lee Morgan was chosen as mascot for today’s match against Jersey.

“I grew up with rugby and as soon as I started it up, I really enjoyed it, ” York said. “I think it’s so important for kids to get involved with sports and rugby teaches you a lot of skills including how to communicate – it’s important to the game and great for them.

“For the kids today it’s been something different and hopefully they enjoyed it – it’s been great spending the afternoon with them and seeing them grow in confidence and ability.”

Airplay is the RAF Benevolent Fund’s support programme for children and young people in the RAF family, operating on all main RAF bases across the UK. By ensuring that RAF children and young people have the support, facilities and activities they deserve, Airplay aims to alleviate some of the strain on RAF personnel and their families, at home or on the front line.

RAF Benevolent Fund: The Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund is the RAF's leading welfare charity, providing financial, practical and emotional support to all members of the RAF family. It helps serving and former members of the RAF, as well as their partners and dependants, whenever they require help.

The Fund helps members of the RAF family deal with a wide range of issues: from childcare and relationship difficulties to injury and disability, and from financial hardship and debt to illness and bereavement. For more information, visit: www.rafbf.org
