Ealing Trailfinders youth players help Ealing Schools to London title
Ealing Borough counted 10 Ealing Trailfinders youth members in their midst as they won the London Youth Games U19s’ Championship.
The team which is a mix of players from Drayton Manor, Cardinal Wiseman, Twyford and Elthorne Park High Schools were led by Cardinal Wiseman head of PE and former Ealing Trailfinders centre Joe Price and defeated defending champions Waltham Forest 26-5 in the final.
The team’s success is the fruit of the hard work of Price and his fellow heads of PE. They have helped run a programme to develop rugby in non-traditional rugby-playing schools in the borough that culminates in Schools’ Festivals at Ealing Trailfinders Vallis Way home.
In total this school year 14 teams from seven schools have competed in four different tournaments.
“The 2017 Ealing Schools tournaments have been a great success and built on last year’s efforts,” Price said. “To have 14 teams competing and playing competitive rugby in Ealing is a fantastic achievement.
“I would like to thank Ealing Trailfinders for their support of the festivals by providing prizes and 1st team players to attend and hand out awards and medals.
“I would also like to thank all the staff at Ealing Fields, Twyford, Elthorne Park High School, Cardinal Wiseman, Villiers, Drayton Manor and Dormers Wells High school for their time and effort in developing rugby at their schools and within the borough.”
At the most recent festival that took place at Vallis Way last week Cardinal Wiseman won the Year 8, 9 and 10 titles.
