Flanker Grace added to back-row options

Ealing Trailfinders can confirm the signing of Irish flanker Eoghan Grace to boost their back-row options for the Greene King IPA Championship and the British and Irish Cup.

Grace arrives after spending the past two seasons with Plymouth Albion. He played alongside new team-mates Toby Howley-Berridge and Iain Grieve for the Devon side and was also named Albion player of the year last season.

He joined up with Ben Ward’s side at the start of the week and been getting to know his new team-mates as they prepare for this Saturday’s match away to London Welsh.

“I am delighted to have signed for Ealing Trailfinders, ” Grace said. “Having played in the Championship for the past two seasons I know exactly how tough a league it is.

“I am looking forward to doing my best to help establish Ealing Trailfinders in the Championship and help the team play an exciting, attacking brand of rugby.”

The 28-year-old came through ranks of the Munster Academy after being spotted playing for Rockwell College and while there he represented Ireland at U19, U20 and sevens level.

He was part of the Ireland U20 that won a Six Nations Grand Slam in 2007 and he played alongside current Ireland internationals Luke Fitzgerald, Cian Healy and Keith Earls.

Grace joined Exeter Chiefs for a season in 2010, but after an Achilles injury he returned to Connacht after one season. Following two seasons on Ireland’s west coast he moved back to Devon with Albion.

“We haven’t had the opportunity to replace Red Pennycook in the squad until now, ” Director of Coaching Ward said. “Eoghan became available and brings a lot of experience and intensity to our back row.

“He will add competition for places as we look to move up the table and I'm delighted to be able to welcome him to Ealing Trailfinders.”
