Jarvo expecting no let up in Esher
Ealing Trailfinders’ Matt Jarvis is expecting another tough match when Ben Ward’s side travel across the Thames to take on Esher on Saturday.
Esher trail Ealing Trailfinders by seven points following their 24-20 loss to Tynedale in the most recent round of matches, but they are unbeaten at their Moseley Road home.
“It is a London derby, so it will be pretty similar to Richmond and they will be coming at us with all guns blazing, ” Jarvis said. “It will be a pretty tough match and they have a pretty decent squad.
“We’ve seen a bit of footage of them and they look pretty good and it will be a tough game, especially going down there. We’ve had a good start, but we need to be 100 percent switched on for this week.”
Ealing Trailfinders faced a similar proposition earlier in October when they crossed Kew Bridge to take on their nearest rivals Richmond.
The sides were level on points at the time, with the west Londoners only ahead on point’s difference. However, Ealing Trailfinders responded by securing a confidence-boosting bonus point win and stopped the league’s leading scorers from crossing the line until the last minute.
“It was a tough game, we were both top of the league at that time, we were both unbeaten and going down there we knew it would be a tough game, ” Jarvis added.
“That was the first game all year where we put in a really good performance for 80 minutes and it gave everyone a boost around the squad.”
The Neath-born Jarvis was one of the many new faces to arrive in W13 over the summer, though fans were already familiar with him after he played for Nottingham at Vallis Way last season.
He has been a regular face in the starting side and has switched seamlessly between fly-half and fullback, while also taking charge of the place kicking.
“I’m very happy with my rugby and off the field there is a great bunch of boys, ” he said. “Ben is building a very good squad with a strong ethos. Everyone gets on and are mates as well as teammates.”
