Spivs and JK sign on for Championship return

Ealing Trailfinders are delighted announce that Jamie Kilbane and Paul Spivey have extended their deals with the club ahead of their return to the Greene King IPA Championship in 2015-16.

Loose-head prop Kilbane and second-row Spivey have been firm fixtures in the match-day squad this season and are experienced campaigners in the Championship.

The 31-year-old Kilbane has played 21 times so far for Ben Ward’s side this season. Previously the Ulsterman played 129 times for Rotherham Titans and 14 for London Scottish in the Championship.

“This year at Ealing Trailfinders has been one of my most enjoyable years of rugby, ” Kilbane said. “It is rare to find that elusive combination of great teammates, good coaching, facilities, ambition, team morale and togetherness, all of which we've had in spades.

“When Ben approached me about re-signing for next year it was an incredibly easy decision. This year has been both tough and fun, but we've always been building towards our next step. I am very excited for our year ahead in the Championship and I hope to play a key role in our future successes.”

Spivey was another who joined from London Scottish ahead of the 2014-15 season. He played 36 matches for the Exiles and previously featured 52 times for Moseley. So far this season he has appeared in 15 matches for the Vallis Way outfit.

“I'm delighted to have re-signed with Ealing Trailfinders, this club is a very forward thinking club and knows the direction it wants to go in, ” Spivey said. “I've enjoyed every aspect of rugby here on and off the pitch which is so crucial to a successful team and I want to be a part of that going forward.

“With the coaching staff and facilities I've been able to improve my game and I owe a lot to the club for that.”

“JK is an extremely popular member of the squad on and off the field, ” Director of Coaching Ward said “His performances this season have been of a high level and he is a very experienced Championship player. I’ve been particularly pleased with his willingness to learn and continue to improve.

“Paul made a slow start to his Ealing Trailfinders career with an injury picked up in pre-season. His performances in the second half of the season have brought another dimension to our game and his carrying has put us on the front foot.

“Like JK, he has good experience in the Championship, wants to keep improving himself as a player and seems to really be enjoying his rugby at the moment.”

The pair are the latest to re-sign with Ealing Trailfinders and follow in the wake of Phil Chesters who recently signed an extended deal that means he will also work with the club’s rehabilitation team

James Love, Red Pennycook and Alun Walker meanwhile are all on two year deals and will continue with Ealing Trailfinders next season.

“Alun Walker is recovering well from a knee injury and will be back in pre-season, ” Ward added. “Red has played an important role throughout the year and puts his body on the line every time he plays.

“James has had some niggles this season but over the last few weeks in training seems to be getting back near his best. With a good pre-season James will add strength and depth to our back three and improve competition for places.”
