Maddison and Murphy cross Thames to Vallis Way
Ealing Trailfinders are pleased to announce that they have signed Kieran Murphy and Barney Maddison on 18-month deals.
The pair head to Vallis Way from London Welsh and have agreed contracts through to the end of the 2017-18 season. Both players started against Ealing Trailfinders for the Exiles at Vallis Way on 26 November.
Murphy is a Number 8, who played for the Exiles for 18 months and who scored nine tries in 31 appearances. He also brings experience from playing for Brive in France’s Top 14 and the Scarlets in the Pro 12.
“I’m delighted to have joined Ealing Trailfinders. The club has a lot of ambition and a great set-up. I’m looking forward to contributing to an already excellent side,” Murphy said.
“It was a difficult situation at London Welsh, but I’d like to thank them for an enjoyable 18 months and I wish them the best of luck for the rest of the season and the future.”
Maddison was in his first season with Welsh and had scored one try in 13 matches since joining from Rotherham Titans. He featured in both matches between Titans and Ealing Trailfinders in 2015-16 and captained the Yorkshire outfit at Vallis Way.
“I’m happy to have joined Ealing Trailfinders, who are a team that is heading in the right direction. I want to help the team build on their strong start to the season and hopefully I will add something to the team,” Maddison said.
Both players are cup-tied in the British and Irish Cup, but will go into the squad for Ealing Trailfinders Greene King IPA Championship match against Cornish Pirates on 24 December.
“Barney is a player who we have been following for some time and came close to coming here a few years ago. He has a lot of Championship experience and gives us options in the back and second row,” Director of Rugby Ben Ward said.
“Kieran has been a huge threat with ball in hand for London Welsh this season and has plenty of experience of playing at the highest level. He will add another dimension to our back row for the second half of this season and next.”
