Mantella wings in to Vallis Way
Ealing Trailfinders have given their fans an early Christmas present with the signing of prolific wing Miles Mantella from London Welsh.
Mantella is the third player brought in by Director of Rugby Ben Ward in the last week and follows Kieran Murphy and Barney Maddison who moved from Old Deer Park last week.
The 25-year-old Mantella is well-known to Greene King IPA Championship defences after he scored 43 tries in 79 appearances during four seasons with London Scottish. He joined Welsh in the summer and scored two tries in nine appearances.
“I’d heard great things about Ealing Trailfinders and the way the club was developing, so I was very happy to take up the chance to join when it arose,” Mantella said.
“The facilities are impressive and the squad Ben Ward has put together is strong and competitive. I am looking forward to working hard to help the team keep on challenging in the league in the second half of the season.”
Mantella first made his name when he helped Millfield School to the 2009 and 2010 National Schools Sevens titles.
From there he joined Harlequins Academy and after he helped them to the final of the 2010 Premiership Rugby Sevens he earned a call-up by England 7s to training squad for the Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games.
He spent the 2011-12 on loan at Rosslyn Park before he joined Scottish as a dual registered player in 2012-13 and then signed on fulltime with them the following season.
“Miles is a top class winger and has been playing some good rugby for London Welsh this year,” Ward said. “He joins us on a long term deal and will provide further competition to our back three.
“Miles is someone we have been tracking for some time and we are delighted to welcome him to Ealing Trailfinders.”
