Mark Bright to join Ealing Trailfinders

Ealing Trailfinders are pleased to announce that Mark Bright will join their squad from London Scottish at the end of the current season.

The 35-year-old Bright is the current London Scottish captain and has played for the Exiles since 2011. He has established himself as a powerful ball-carrier with a nose for the try-line, including four from his appearances against Ealing Trailfinders

His 28 tries from 26 appearances last season earned the accolade as Greene King IPA Championship leading try-scorer. The number eight also won the Championship player of the season in 2012-13 and featured in the Championship dream team for the past three seasons.

“Ealing Trailfinders have a very impressive setup and are very ambitious and hopefully I can add to that over the coming seasons, ” he said.

“They also have an impressive coaching group and I am looking forward to a fresh start and a new challenge with Ealing Trailfinders.”

Bright was born in Nelson, on New Zealand’s southern island and having played for Marist he joined local ITM Cup side Tasman Makos. After moving to England he first played for Kendall and Redruth, where he won selection for Cornwall.

His performances in 2013-14 earned him a late call-up for England 7s squad that competed at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. He made his England 7s debut at the Lyon FIRA-AER European GP Sevens series event and started five of England’s six matches in Glasgow.

He left Glasgow having helped England to success in the plate final, against a Welsh side that featured current Ealing Trailfinders fullback Will Harries.

“We are delighted to have Mark on board for next year, ” Director of Coaching Ben Ward said. “He has consistently been one of the best back-row forwards in the Championship over the past number of seasons.

“Mark has tremendous attributes and scores a lot of tries. He also brings a huge amount of leadership qualities on and off the field that can only benefit our squad.”

Bright is the first of many new signings ahead of next season. This weekend the team take on Moseley in a vital match. Keep an eye on www.ealingtrailfinders1stXV.com and our Twitter and Facebook pages for all the team news and match reports.
