Pontypridd, Hartpury and Coventry to provide tough pre-season workout
Ealing Trailfinders will be on the road for all three pre-season friendlies ahead of their return to the Greene King IPA Championship.
Ben Ward’s side will start away to Welsh Premiership team Pontypridd at their Sardis Road home on Saturday, 15 August and then take on two sides that they encountered on their way to the National 1 title, Hartpury College and Coventry.
“Over the past few years Pontypridd have consistently been one of the best teams in Wales, ” Director of Coaching Ward said. “They will provide a massive test for us to kick off our pre-season schedule ahead of what will be a season of huge tests.”
The team will then travel to Hartpury College on Saturday, 22 August where they will face a side likely to feature former Vallis Way favourites Steve Pape and Tim Brockett.
Ealing Trailfinders will wrap up their preparations against Coventry at their Butts Park Arena on Saturday, 29 August. Both teams will be determined to win after two fierce encounters in National 1 this season.
The Midlanders inflicted Ealing Trailfinders first loss of the season with a 32-26 win at the Arena in November. In the return fixture at Vallis Way Ealing Trailfinders needed a late Luke Daniels try to secure a 24-18 victory.
“Hartpury play a very open and attacking style, ” Ward added. “They will keep coming at you for 80 minutes and will give our defence a good examination.
“Coventry beat us at their place last season. They have a very strong home record and I'm sure they will be recruiting well over the summer. All three will provide us with different tests and prepare us well for the season ahead.”
