Rodman lends weight to pack for Championship return
England Students prop Sam Rodman is the latest player to sign up for Ealing Trailfinders return to the Greene King IPA Championship.
The 22-year-old played in both the Students’ recent matches, the win over Wales and the defeat to France and will now link up with director of coaching Ben Ward’s side for 2015-16.
“I joined Ealing Trailfinders because I wanted to challenge my rugby skills and with good props already at the club I believe it can only benefit my rugby learning, ” Rodman said.
“The aspiring culture at the club along with their style of rugby, also swayed my decision to join. Having met with Ben Ward and Paddy Gill, I could see their enthusiasm and vision for Ealing Trailfinders.”
Rodman recently completed his studies at Leeds Beckett University and he also helped his University to the British University Championship title with a 31-23 win over Loughborough Students at Twickenham this season.
Ben Ward’s side are set to play in the Championship for the second time in their history after winning the National 1 title with 136, nine ahead of their nearest rivals, Rosslyn Park.
“I’m delighted to have acquired the services of Sam for next season, ” Ward said. “He is someone we have been following this season and has been an extremely destructive scrummager for Leeds Beckett. He can play both sides and I believe will only get better working with (scrum coach) David Paice.”
