Wilson wings in from England Sevens
Callum Wilson will bring his experience of playing for England Sevens on the World Rugby HSBC Sevens World Sevens Series to Ealing Trailfinders for the club’s return to the Greene King IPA Championship.
Ben Ward’s side will play in the Championship for the second time in their history having won the National 1 title with 136 points, nine more than their nearest rivals Rosslyn Park.
The 24-year-old Wilson was selected for the England Sevens squad at the start of the 2013-14 season and he made his debut in the Wellington tournament in February 2014.
He also played alongside Chris Kinloch for Loughborough Students when they won the National 2 North title in 2012.
“I am incredibly excited about signing for Ealing Trailfinders. Having been with England Sevens for the past two seasons, I am really looking forward to getting back to the 15-a-side game, ” Wilson said.
“My housemate Chris Kinloch loves the club and living with him has meant I've been down to witness first-hand the ambition, unity and enjoyment that flourishes at the club.”
“I am an ambitious player, so when looking at my rugby options, Ealing Trailfinders stood out as a great fit for me. I am joining a club whose facilities, management and squad are all moving forward. I can't wait to be part of the growth of this already well established club.”
Wilson plays on the wing in the 15-man game, but his size and power mean he has often figured in the front row at Sevens.
He represented Great Britain Students Sevens at University Games in Kazan, Russia in 2013 and played for England Royals in Dubai in 2012.
“Callum is a big ball carrier and has the ability to play on the wing or in the centres, ” Director of Coaching Ward said. “He will provide a physical presence in attack and defence and be a huge asset.”
